Monday Music - San Remo

The annual "Il festival della canzone italiana di San Remo" or just "il festival di San Remo" is a very popular song contest here in Italy that has taken place ever since 1951. Many famous Italian singers have participated (and won) through the years. Eros Ramazotti is maybe the most famous one, even outside of Italy. He won the contest in 1986 with the song "Adesso tu".

Today I'll let you enjoy the song that came 2nd in 1981. Loretta Goggi (born 1950) is a popular singer, impersonator, actress, entertainer, tv hostess and dubber and she sang "Maledetta primavera".

I'm not a big fan of tv commercials, but here in Italy there's one that always get me in a good mood. It's for a famous Italian chocolate spread. And even if I don't like or eat the chocolate spread I do love the commercial....

In 1967, Al Bano Carrisi met Romina Power, daughter of American actor Tyrone Power, during the filming of the movie "Nel Sole", named after one of his songs and from then on they were one of Italy's most loved famous couples for many many years. (They married in 1970 and split up in 1999).  And here's what Wikipedia says about the couple.

A song for an Italian jamboree

In my last post regarding Italian pop music I also included two Roman songs (sung in the Roman dialect). And one of them has now become the favourite of one of my Norwegian readers... He asked me if I could post the lyrics so that people can print it out (and really "let loose" - singing like crazy....?!)

So I've decided to give you the lyrics here, and also the translation into English so that you know what you're singing... And the song is the kind you sing on a jamboree....

Today I just wanted to share some nice Italian songs with you. It's mostly music from the 1960s up till the 1980s, except the song by Eros Ramazzotti which only dates back till 2001. You can click on the links to hear the songs. I have also made links so that you can read about the singers. This is actually a tiny piece of Italian music history and I hope you'll enjoy it.

The last two songs are sung in Roman dialect and they are really funny songs. It's the kind of songs the Italian love to sing when they're partying.... My husband also love singing them when we're out driving, waving his arms around like crazy... So it's strange we haven't crashed yet.....
